The game soccer, also know as football, is considered the most popular game in the world. The game is played with two teams each containing eleven players of whom one is the goalie or goalkeeper. The playing field is rectangular, with goals in the middle of the short ends on either side. The object of the game is to shoot the ball into the opposite goal to score points. When at the end of the game the score is even, either a draw is declared or the game goes into extra time and/or a penalty shootout. Soccer is governed internationally by the FIFA (the International Federation of Association Football). The most prestigious football competition is the FIFA World Cup, held every four years.
